Ajit Maharaj is Chief Operations Officer of InstaToll Africa, bringing 19 years of hands-on experience in toll road concessions development and motorway operations across Sub-Saharan Africa. Since 2019, he has led restructuring, operations and contract management for the company's toll and motorway portfolio, working directly with government, ministerial and presidential delegations to deliver toll infrastructure solutions across the region.
His project experience covers the full lifecycle of tolling operations, from pre-operations set-up through live toll collection. This includes the ongoing supply, delivery, installation and commissioning of a Toll Management System in Malawi since 2020, operations and maintenance of the 800km East-West Corridor toll route in Zimbabwe, and management of major South African toll concessions including the N1S between Johannesburg and Bloemfontein, the N2N, and the N2S Tsitsikamma corridor, together covering hundreds of kilometres of tolled road.
Ajit began his career as a Management Accountant at Intertoll Africa before progressing through Operations Manager and Business Development roles at Intertoll and Group Five Developments, building deep expertise in toll collection systems, motorway operations and maintenance, and the commercial and contractual side of running toll concessions across the continent.
